The taskforce is made up of law enforcement, courts, human service agencies, local hospitals, churches, and other organizations and individuals concerned with the issues.

The St. Joseph County Methamphetamine Prevention Taskforce was formed in October of 2004 through a grant funded by the Office of Drug Control Policy and managed by the Kalamazoo Community Mental Health Services/ Regional Coordinating Agency.

Methamphetamine production, sale, use, and addiction represents a serious health, public safety and human services problem for law enforcement agencies, addiction services, courts, environmental/public health departments, child welfare agencies, medical officials, and every community in Southwest Michigan.  The clandestine production, distribution, sale, use, and addiction of Meth is more than just a law enforcement, judicial and treatment issue.   Over the last three years, the spread of meth abuse in Southwest Michigan has been dramatic, tragically effecting families, and most noteworthy, small children.

Some local and county wide efforts to address this serious community problem have been undertaken.  Additional efforts to prevent the spread of this dangerous drug, and the social, legal, human, and environmental impact must be instituted.  Hence, the forming of this taskforce.

Provide and promote coordination and collaboration regarding Methamphetamine prevention efforts within the county by identifying gaps in prevention service delivery, target populations to address, prevention messages to utilize, and research based prevention programming to be implemented.

Promote increased public awareness through the development of public service announcements, presentations, and training.  Be a continued source of information regarding new methods for awareness, treatment, and legislation.
